VISA INFORMATION
Training Visa (Subclass 407)
The Training Visa (Subclass 407) enables Australian businesses and government organisations to sponsor candidates to take part in professional development and occupational training activities. With this visa, you are able to continue working for your sponsor while participating in a formal training course that is being offered by your employer.
Although the application process is very similar to that of the Temporary Employer Sponsored Visa (Subclass 482), the training visa is not intended to fill labour shortages and is not suitable for those whose only goal is to find employment. It does, however, permit the bearer of the visa to partake in occupational training with a sponsoring organisation that is appropriate for the visa’s intended use.
How Training Visa works
You can go to Australia temporarily to take part in professional development or occupational training with a training visa.
These are the different ways you can participate in occupational training under the 407 visa subclass:
Workplace-based training to acquire registration or licensing: This course is intended for individuals who must get registration, membership, or a licence in order to begin a profession in their native country or Australia.
Government Support: This group includes individuals who are receiving assistance from an Australian or domestic government agency to complete structured occupational training based in the workplace.
Professional Development: This group includes international employers who want their staff members to participate in a customised professional development program for the advancement of their business.
The STSOL (Short Term Skilled Occupation List) took the place of the SOL (Skilled Occupation List) on April 19, 2017. Currently, there is a consolidated list of qualified skilled jobs rather than a distinct list for STSOL. This list will be updated every six months beginning on July 1st, 2017.
